New blog post on my main page about my new littly birdie pet Navi =)

DoYouBuzz: a sleek new resume creator

I just discovered this killer new resume creator called DoYouBuzz. It uses sleek html5 design and has tons of places to highlight your skills, show off your personality, and make a great impression on your next employer.

Check out my resume to get a feel and make one of your own as well! Include the link to it on your LinkedIn and your businesscards to have a full resume with you wherever you go.

Check out my posterous profile

So this post is part of my tests to see which social networking sites get indexed the most and thus help your other profiles get properly indexed. My bet is tumblr will get picked up quite quickly given how much people update this site, and I need my new posterous to get indexed fast. I also need *%&#ing Google to re-crawl my LinkedIn which is hasn’t done for a few months. Yay. #1stworldproblems… or just #SEOproblems?

Calling all Googlebots

New blog post on my main website as a shoutout to Google’s web crawlers to re-index and update the cache for my LinkedIn and Twitter profiles. And this link is to help that post get seen. Google Gaming at its finest =D

…the reader. No, I’m selfishly writing this 100% for myself.  So why write in a blog post, where thousands of people could potentially see this if the post is written by me, for me?

Simple: search engine optimization.

I’m not very active on this blog at all, partly because I already maintain my own website/blog here. The reason this Tumblr profile exists is simply because Tumblr exists.

See, all you faithful tumblr’s post tons of content to this site- and don’t get me wrong- Tumblr is a great site/social network to post, interact, share, and generally hang out online.  I just don’t have time for that sort of thing, with close to 20 other social profiles I check in on weekly.

For instance, I’ll use this spot to plug my profile on Quora.  Quora is a great question/answer site where professionals and experts from all kinds of niches weigh in on user-submitted questions. Kind of like Yahoo answers, only with less pregnant teenagers posting all over. It’s pretty nifty- check it out (if anyone even reads this).

Anyways, where was I?

Ah yes, SEO. The purpose of this awesome network, with millions of users microblogging away every day is thatGoogle LOVES Tumblr.I’ve only posted 4 times to this page and already my profile ranks on the 3rd page of Google for “Nick Gable.”

Pretty ballerific.

So every now and then I’ll update this page with fluff posts like this that either pimp out my other web profiles or help drive up my web presence in one way or another.

Hell, in the next 2 months or so I expect to own EVERY site in the top 10 results for my name. How many people do you know that can claim that, Mr. nonexistent reader?

Anyways, that’s enough rambling about me for now. On tumblr anyways; I’ll keep rambling about myself in real life. I’m pretty self-absorbed like that.

I think my strawberry is trying to give me a hi 5 for eating healthy =P

Go ahead, do it.  Go Google “Nick Gable” right now.

About half of what you see on page 1 for my name are sites I control and are about me.  There’s my Workface, Professional on the web, and Pinterest all right there.  I also have a Google+, LinkedIn, Twitter, and personal website (nickgable.com) in the next few pages, and they’re all working their way slowly to the top of page 1 for “Nick Gable.”

I’m a computer nerd that works in social media, this is what I do.  And I’m doing it by simply feeding my addiction for social media 1 post at a day.  I’m more active on a lot of those networks than I am on tumblr, but this site is currently ranking on page 5 for “Nick Gable” so I thought I’d show some love and get an update in.

Anyways, the whole point of this is that your web presence matters.  This is 2012.  If someone wants to know about you, they Google you and look you up on social media.  That is simply the reality we live in; friends, family, and future bosses alike.  You can’t get a job- hell, you can’t even get a date without people googling you.

So what do they see?  My best recommendation is to have some good professional sites set to public for employers to see (like LinkedIn, Google plus, or a virtual resume) and the rest of your social profiles set to limited visibility/privacy for just your friends and family.

If you have any web design skills it also helps to get a personal blog or website going as well.  The more the merrier!

People ARE going to Google you.  What will they see?

More specifically, SEO/fitness geek heaven.  For the last month or so I’ve been using fitocracy, a new social network where users can track and share workouts.  What’s even cooler is that you earn points based on the difficulty of the workout, and you actually level up and get achievements and quests.

Kinda like this:

So now I have a site that allows me to track my own fitness progress, see what other friends are up to, network/share ideas with other fitness nerds and coaches, and make a game out of it all so I’m motivated to keep doing it.

Just the other night I saw there was an achievement for doing a straight set of 15 pull ups, so it motivated me to try a pullup workout right then and there and whaddya know- I made it.

This is why the internet is so fucking cool; there’s a community for everything and everyone.  Can’t wait to get to the gym tonight and level up!
